Adam Kukuk: News

.. with love to the choir - August 23, 2010

Yesterday I ended my time at Pilgrim UCC with a music-full, worship-full service celebrating the amazing journey of the last year and a half. As the time came to leave, it was the choir I most regretted leaving behind. We have come so far: musically and spiritually in such a short time. Their recordings are all over the music page, with more to come. Give them a listen and hear what a choir that sings from the soul sounds like.

Asher arrives - July 10, 2010

Monday morning at 11:08am, Asher Christian, our second child was born! Happy day!! Check out Facebook for photos and more.

Regional Youth Event - June 20, 2010

I joined 300+ youth in Defiance, OH last night in my first gig as band-man. I taught 6 instrumentalists (grades 9-12) a 5 minute group-improvisation-prayer with less than an hour of rehearsal. A raucous experience and a kinetic evening with the young generation of the UCC. We have much to look forward to...

Four Doorways - June 2, 2010

Last night I had a rich conversation with the worship committee of First Church Oberlin. We talked about their January workshop, how it has impacted their worship, and their plans for the future. It was a great joy to me that our time together has born fruit and continues to be helpful in the life of their church.

Earth-Shaking Praise - May 15, 2010

Over 44 musicians assembled to give praise to our God this morning @ Hudson UCC. All the hard work was transformed into lesson after lesson on the rich variety of God's rich blessings. I cannot put THANK YOU into large enough caps to express my gratitude to all. Re-live the audio/video next week...

UCC Joint Spring Meeting - May 5, 2010

I have been seriously stretching my creative muscles organizing the music for a joint meeting of the Western Reserve and Eastern Ohio Associations of the United Church of Christ. (Thank goodness we usually use abbreviations...) So far, First Congregational Youth Choir - Hudson, Dekiru Daiko drumming group - Cleveland, Campanella Ringers - Elyria, and Solid Brass - Lorain, along with a number of other musicians are combining forces for a morning to remember. Check back to experience to video/audio.

Let's get together - March 25, 2010

All the hits from the last 400 years in worship last Sunday... Francis Couperin's - 1600's - Kyrie, beautifully sung by the choir. Philip Glass' - 1990's - Metamorphosis Five on the Steinway. A setting of the Lord's Prayer by Rimsky Korsakov -1890's- for choir, organ, and sign language. And a cover of the Youngblood's -1960's- "Get Together", which also ended up as an organ postlude. I think it's safe to say that it's the first time Pilgrim's organ has played that particular piece, a premier of which I'm proud. ;-) 2010

Thanks Mr. Glass - March 7, 2010

This year during Lent, we're exploring our contemplative side at Pilgrim. Each service begins with a time of meditation on Psalm 131, with music by Philip Glass. I'm playing Metamorphosis One through Five, then ending with Mad Rush on Palm Sunday. The reaction of the congregation has been effusive. Glass' music seems deeply spiritual to me, and I have been thrilled to share it on Sunday mornings. Come on out and listen!

Mardi Gras - February 15, 2010

Glory, Glory, Hallelujah! Sprays of color and the tinkle of plastic beads filled Pilgrim's sanctuary as we celebrated a Pilgrim tradition... Mardi Gras. The Paradise Jazz band, led by John Richmond - clarinet, led us through the ups and downs of the liturgy with infectious joy. I hope we all experience the reality that laying down our heavy burdens for Christ's light load opens the path to abundant life. Lent, here we come.

Still Buzzing - February 6, 2010

My first worship workshop at First Church in Oberlin, UCC, was a runaway success. College students to veteran church-goers sang, prayed, and played xylophones side by side. My prayer is that this is only the beginning of many fruitful ministry opportunities. Reflecting on the churches I've served, I realize I've been creating resources and pushing the worship envelope all along. But now... you can bring my creativity to work for you. We can enjoy deepening our experience God - together. Drop me a line. And stay tuned for more features.

Advent Choir Calisthenics - November 13, 2009

Our choir at Pilgrim is making a habit of singing like were twice our size. With 14-18 singers we're filling the high rafters with sounds of worship. We're moving onward with four gorgeous and challenging anthems for the Advent season, combined with some choice quartets to let us stretch our solo chops.
Come join us during December for some worship you won't forget.
