Multi-instrumentalist and composer Adam Stavros Kukuk performs, accompanies, composes, and leads worship and workshops in eclectic musical styles. Currently based in Elyria, OH, Adam has played piano for 22 years and is a self-taught organist. Penny whistles, hand drums, and many other instruments are frequently incorporated into his work. As the music director and organist at Pilgrim UCC (Tremont) Adam led music ranging from Bach to Joan Osborne to South African freedom songs. Formerly a co-director of The Ohio Conservatory, Adam is a gifted musical instructor to students of all ages and competencies, at one time teaching more than 40 private piano students in addition to group music theory classes. Adam’s classical musical training also has included singing the role of Bastien in Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienne, directing the opera chorus for The Marriage of Figaro, and understudying the role of Monastatos in The Magic Flute, all at the University of Akron. Adam’s greatest passion is nurturing participatory and creative Christian worship. He is a past recipient of a worship renewal grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, for which he composed liturgical music for seven original seasonal liturgies in collaboration with a visual artist and a writer. He has led congregational worship with a genuine and contagious enthusiasm in several Christian traditions. In 2006 Plymouth (MN) Presbyterian Church commisioned him to compose music and lead a worship workshop for youth. Adam currently resides in Elyria, OH with his preacher wife, Christina, angelic daughter, Celia, and bouncing baby boy, Asher - all of whom appreciate his fabulous cooking skills. (revised Aug 2010)
